Group 2 Queen for Mount Nelson

The Mount Nelson filly Highlands Queen was an impressive winner today of the Group 2 Shadwell Prix de Pomone at Deauville for trainer Yohann Gourraude and owner Mme N Kerjean and S Kumin.

This three-year-old filly was given a patient ride by Stephane Pasquier before striking as the field fanned out across the straight and the filly showed a classy performance to win by two and a half lengths.

Highlands Queen was Gourraud's first Group 3 winner when landing the Prix Cleopatre in May and again broke new ground for the yard here, she is certainly a very exciting filly for the Newsells Park Stud stallion Mount Nelson.

"She ran well to be eighth having been knocked about in the Prix de Diane but I felt a certain pressure today," said Gourraud. "She was up in trip and it is faster ground so there was plenty to worry about.

"What happened on the day at Chantilly didn't spoil the experience for me and she has shown how good she is in the morning since. Now she has won this I have no hesitation in going to the Vermeille, while she is also in the Ascot Champions Fillies' and Mares' in October if all goes well."

Bred by S.C.E.A. Domaine De L'Argos, Highlands Queen is out of the Polish Precedent mare Queen Of Poland.
