Stallions at Newsells Park Stud continued their great run of Stakes success today, with Equiano's The Tin Man running a cracking race to finish second in the Group 1 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock, and in Baden Baden Weltmacht scored in the Stakes race for Mount Nelson.
The Tin Man could have done without the rain and he came from a fair way back after a slow start and ran on really well for trainer James Fanshawe and owner Fred Archer Racing - Ormonde. This four-year-old was following up his comfortable success in the Group 3 bet365 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury and decisive victory in the Listed Weatherbys Private Bank Leisure Stakes at Windsor earlier this year.
Bred by Mrs Elizabeth Grundy out of the mare Persario (Bishop Of Cashel), The Tin Man is a half-brother to the multiple Group winning sprinter Deacon Blues (Compton Place) and Stakes filly Holley Shiftwell (Bahamian Bounty).
It was the second successive year that a son of Equiano has finished second in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock, with Strath Burn taking the honours last time.
Earlier in the day in Germany, Mount Nelson's daughter Weltmacht won the Listed Wackenhut Mercedes Benz Steherpreis in Germany for trainer Markus Klug.
This five-year-old has previously won the Listed Preis der Fritz Henkel Stiftung at Dusseldorf last year, and was second in the Diana-Trial (Gr.2) at Hoppegarten as a three-year-old.
Owned and bred by Gestut Rottgen, Weltmacht is out of Wild Side (Sternkoenig) and is a half-sister to multiple Group winner Wild Coco, and Stakes horses Wilddrossel and Wild Silva.
